over the next 2 days please reduce water usage

City of Hollywood Sewer Treatment Plant Overwhelmed

Due to the heavy rain from Tropical Storm Eta, the City of Hollywood wastewater treatment plant (where we send our City's sewage for treatment) is under emergency repair and is overwhelmed. The City of Hollywood is experiencing some sewage spills near the plant. Because our sewage is pumped to this plant, our sewage system may be impacted. To mitigate any potential impacts, the cities of Hollywood and Hallandale Beach are asking residents to please reduce their water use over the next two days to avoid worse impacts. This means if you're able:
  • taking shorter showers;
  • limiting the flushing of toilets;
  • not running dishwashers; and
  • waiting until this issue has passed before running washing machines.

Our Public Works Department is monitoring the situation and balancing our sewer pump stations as best we can.
