50 by 30 Climate Action Plan Adopted!

Last Wednesday, the City’s first Climate Action Plan “50by30” was adopted by City Commission on a 3-0 vote. This Plan, a first for the City, includes 54 strategies for reducing Hallandale Beach community emissions 50% by 2030 and improving quality of life.

A huge thank you goes out to the nearly 450 residents who engaged with the Climate Action Planning process! Thank YOU!

Now that the Plan has been adopted, it's time for implementation! Email sustainability@cohb.org if you’d like to be part of implementing any of the 54 actions. Additionally, you can help implement the plan by visiting www.cohb.org/MyClimateAction and carrying out some of the actions listed there. Share what you’re doing to reduce your emissions with us by emailing us at sustainability@cohb.org!

King Tides

Just this past weekend residents along Golden Isles Drive experienced some of the first days of the 2021 King Tide Season. King Tide Flooding is expected on the following dates:

  • September 9 – 11
  • October 5 -11
  • November 3 – 9
  • December 2 - 7

During these dates, if you live in or need to visit a low-lying tidally influenced part of the City, try to plan your trips to avoid high tide times. You can check high tide times here. During King Tide events, be careful driving through or walking through flood water as hazards can be hiding where you can’t see them. If you MUST drive through flood water (we highly recommend against it), please be mindful of your vehicle’s wake and its impact on neighboring homes and/or pedestrians. If you see King Tide flooding, please take pictures (ideally with location information) and send them to sustainability@cohb.org.

As the sea level rises, the frequency of tidal flooding is expected to increase to nearly 50 times per year by 2030 and over 200 times per year by 2045. It's not too late to make changes in your life and our City to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reduce these future impacts.

broward solar co-op

Join the Broward Solar Co-Op

Have you ever thought about putting solar panels on your roof?

This is a great time to do it! We’re teaming up with nonprofit group Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to bring you the Broward Solar Co-op — a free group to help you go solar.

The solar co-op will help area homeowners and small business owners learn about solar together and purchase solar panels at a group rate from a single installer.

Together, co-op members will learn about solar energy and leverage their numbers to get competitive pricing and quality solar installations. After a competitive bidding process facilitated by SUN, a group of volunteers from the co-op will select a solar company to complete the co-op's installations.

Joining a co-op does not obligate members to purchase solar or chargers. Instead, each member will have the option to individually purchase panels and electric vehicle chargers based on the installer's group rate.

JOIN FOR FREE: Sign up for the Broward Solar Co-op at SolarUnitedNeighbors.org/Broward

LEARN MORE: Join us for a webinar on Wednesday, September 22 at 6pm. The solar experts at SUN will walk you through solar technology, economics, incentives, and how the co-op works. Register at SolarUnitedNeighbors.org/Broward/Events
