9/11 Hurricane Irma Update

Monday, September 11 Hurricane Irma City of Hallandale Beach Update

Good morning City of Hallandale Beach Residents.

We hope you and your families weathered the storm well.  The City’s recovery phase has now begun. The City is working diligently to get the roads open for traffic.  Roadways are being cleared primarily for fire rescue vehicles, police cars and public works crews to respond to calls for service. There will be no garbage collection today.

Residents are not encouraged to return home immediately.  Most of the area west of US 1 is without power.  Even though many of the high rises east of US 1 have power, the elevators may not be working.  Some still have water in the garages.  At this time, most businesses remain closed. We will put out further bulletins as we know about all of these situations.

Many traffic signals are down.  Crews will be working to restore traffic signals, water service and sanitation systems to those areas affected. As FPL begins to restore power, downed powerlines will become energized.  Please be cautious of downed powerlines.  The priorities for restoration of power are solely under the control of FPL.  To report and find status, contact 1-800-4-OUTAGE.

All parks and beaches are closed until further notice. City Hall will be open for business tomorrow Tuesday, September 12. Please note, certain City services may not be available immediately.

The first public hearing on next year’s budget scheduled for Wednesday evening has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

We ask to be extremely patient as we go through this recovery process.
